Deadly ill patients often late for palliative care

A study by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and UGent shows that patients who are ill are referred to palliative care very late.

Half of the people with chronic and progressive lung disease are even referred less than ten days before their death. For half of people with heart failure, this is 12 days, for dementia 14 days and for cancer 20 days.
